Berenice Abbott, American photographer (1898-1991) born in Springfield, OH and died in Monson, ME.
Abbott worked in New York City, Berlin and Paris as an artist and documentary photographer.
She was a darkroom assistant to Man Ray in 1925. Berenice Abbott befriended Eugène Atget and was integral in the preservation of his
photographs and negatives getting them into the Modern Museum of Art, NYC after Atget’s death.

Abbott’s documentary work was part of  Federal Art Project of the Works Administration in 1935.
She was also on the advisory board of the Photo League 1936-52.
Berenice Abbott’s final years were in Monson, ME.
