Richard Sexton is a fine art and media photographer whose work has been widely published and exhibited internationally. His photography has appeared in numerous magazines, and he has authored 16 books, including New Orleans: A Photo Guide to the Wild Mélange (2024) and Enigmatic Stream: Industrial Landscapes of the Lower Mississippi River (2019). His work often explores the landscapes and cultural identity of the American South and Latin America.
In addition to publishing, Sexton has curated exhibitions such as Sidney Bechet: A World of Jazz 1897–1997 and has had major solo exhibitions at institutions including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, with shows that have traveled to museums across the U.S.
His photographs are held in numerous museum collections, including the New Orleans Museum of Art and the High Museum of Art. In 2014, he received the Michael P. Smith Award for Documentary Photography from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.
