In 1996, Peter Beard was trampled by an elephant. He broke several ribs and his pelvis in the attack, which was captured on film. It was this injury that stopped him moving long enough to organize the exhibition that became "Fifty Years of Portraits"!

"Beauty is the only thing that can save us."
"Stress and density."
